Trialling AI reporting and disclosure on Sport live pages

2025
BBC
A trial implementation of a new way to inform users when, how and why AI is being used to create or edit content across the BBC.
In a word
"Innovation"

The challenge

Design, implement and test (in a live environment) a new approach to disclosing the use of AI across all BBC products, using our BBC Live Sport pages as a testing ground.

How I approached it

  • collaborate closely with our brand, ethics and Responsible AI teams to agree a content formula for how we would explain how AI is being used within the experience
  • work with the responsible AI content designer to design a scalable AI content model for taking live radio transcripts and turning them into a digital-ready, journalistic reporting
  • coordinate the testing plan with editorial colleagues, and upskill colleagues on using the tools
  • design, develop and deliver the new design system component, along with usage guidelines, on time, allowing anybody in the business to use it in the future

The result

The research is being used to inform how we cover live events moving forward, and more broadly to understand how we could begin to shape a pan-BBC vision for push notifications - improving segmentation and personalisation capabilities, streamlining team processes, and consolidating the tools we use to send them.
